Urban/Rural Linkages Showcase Tours - Saturday, May 9th

Following a successful pair of tours at CSD 16, the New York City Host Committee, in conjunction with WHY (World Hunger Year), is putting on a City/Farm Linkages Showcase during this year’s CSD 17. On Saturday, May 9th, we will host two tours which will share with international delegates and civil society some of New York City’s projects and places with deep ties to the themes of CSD 17. Both tours will be fantastic opportunities to experience New York City’s innovative sustainable development models firsthand.

On the Brooklyn-based City Farm Tour, tour participants will visit various community-based, sustainable urban agricultural development programs in the famous borough of Brooklyn. You will meet and learn from communities who are improving their food security through grassroots agriculture initiatives, creative land tenure solutions, innovative urban-rural partnerships, and successful policy supports. The tour departs the UN at 9:30am and returns at 5pm.

The Vibrant Markets Tour will go behind the scenes of various supply chain models within the city and see how they help connect producers with consumers. From one of the largest wholesale markets in the world to the regional farmstands at a Greenmarket to procurement policies at city schools, the city’s market processes will be examined in-depth and in-person. The tour departs the UN at 7:30am and will return at 3pm.

Both tours will be free and will offer a delicious lunch. It will be a great opportunity to spend time informally with stakeholders from all around the world. We look forward to sharing the experiences of New York City with you.
